McPherson Main Street hosts the community's favorite fall event in Downtown McPherson
Burnin' Down Main offers fun, family-friendly activities while serving up the best chili, soup and dessert in town!
Competing teams begin cooking as early as 6:30 a.m. and must have samples ready for the public tasting from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. All tasters must purchase a $5 wristband to receive a sample of each entry and to vote for Best Chili, Best Soup and Best Team Spirit. Wristbands also provide the chance to sample multiple desserts after the Dessert Contest judging.
Still hungry? Chili donated by Wendy's is also available with a wristband. Local non-profits also sell water and soft drinks.
RESPONSE TO COVID-19 PANDEMIC We are sad to announce for the first time since 2002, we will not be having the Burnin' Down Main Cook-Off. We usually sell between 500-600 wristbands, and there is just no way to safely have crowds this size gather in such a small area. In addition to the food consumption aspect, where masks could not be worn, we also draw people just to enjoy the activities like the live music, the inflatables and pumpkin decorating. We were hoping that things would have improved by fall, but even if we go to a less restrictive phase, the feedback from potential contestants has been to wait until next year.
WE WILL BE BACK IN 2021, BETTER THAN EVER! Thank you for your support of this event.
