Since 1872, Arbor Day has been celebrated throughout the United States and schools have always played an important role.
Educators help children discover the social, environmental and economic benefits of trees in cities and towns. Lessons often encourage students to identify and plant trees in their own communities.
The City of McPherson supports continued efforts to educate children about community trees. To commemorate Arbor Day 2020, all fifth grade students attending school in the City of McPherson are invited to participate in the McPherson Arbor Day Poster Contest. Students are encouraged to review the contest rules and engage in this creative opportunity.
All entries must be original artwork and must address the theme "We All Need Kansas Trees for Resilient Ecosystems!" The winner will receive a $25 Chamber check recognition at the April 20, 2020, City Commission meeting and submission in to the Kansas Arbor Day Poster Contest. The winning poster will also be framed and displayed at the municipal building along with past winners.
