Ketcherside Gallery of Fine Arts

"My gift to America is to make one realize how beautiful the simplest landscape is."
- Sven Birger Sandzen

The Norene Catron Ketcherside Gallery of Fine Arts is located in the McPherson Museum. The gallery features selections from the USD 418 McPherson Schools Art Collection. The collection was established in 1910 with the purchase of two Birger Sandzen works.

Historically, the McPherson schools staged an annual art exhibition to raise funds to buy original art. The week-long event attracted hundreds of attendees and resulted in a prestigious art collection currently totaling more than 200 pieces. The UDS 418 collection includes "Rocks and Cedars" by Birger Sandzen (1871-1954); "Tumbledown Barn" by Edmund M. Kopietz (1900-1988); "Kansas Gold" by Margaret Sandzen (1903-1993); "Morning Letter" by H.C. Dunbar (1882-1953); and "Squatter's Adobe" by Charles Rogers (1991-1987).
